I’m often asked what inspired me to create Botticelli, a plus-size boutique dedicated to curvy women who seek fashion that fits, flatters, and empowers. The answer is simple—it came from personal experience.

Struggling to Find Stylish Plus-Size Fashion

Being both tall and plus-size, I’ve always struggled with finding stylish, high-quality plus-size clothing. At 13 years old, I weighed 250 pounds and stood 5’10” tall, but in the early ‘80s, size-inclusive fashion was nearly impossible to find.

The “AH-HA” Moment That Led to Change

In 2002, after a family member’s passing, I set aside $300 to find a sophisticated outfit for the wake and funeral. After searching for two exhausting days, I found nothing that was stylish, elegant, and well-made in plus sizes. From Boston to Hartford, my search was fruitless.

After the funeral, my female relatives and I realized we all had the same frustrating experience—finding plus-size women’s clothing was a constant struggle. That was the day I said, “I’ll do it myself.”

The Birth of Botticelli: A Fashion-Forward Plus-Size Boutique

In 2003, at just 29 years old, I launched Botticelli, a boutique dedicated to fashion-forward, size-inclusive clothing for curvy women. My goal? To ensure that plus-size women never have to sacrifice style, quality, or confidence.
