Shopping often meant settling for clothing that felt outdated, poorly fitted, or designed without real women in mind.

The Moment That Sparked the Business

The idea for Botticelli was born in 2002 during a moment many women will recognize.

After a family member passed away, Jan set aside $300 to find a sophisticated outfit for the wake and funeral. What should have been a simple task turned into two exhausting days of searching.

From Boston to Hartford, store after store offered nothing that was elegant, stylish, and well-made in plus sizes.

Later that day, while talking with female relatives, something became clear.

Every one of them had experienced the exact same frustration.

That was the moment the decision was made.

If the fashion industry wasn’t going to solve the problem — she would.
